The man was taken to New Bridge Medical Center in Paramus at 5:25 p.m. after several rounds of tear gas were shot into the home at Glen Road and Aurora Avenue, Police Chief Richard Gaito told Daily Voice.
The man’s wife was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center with a bruise on her head, which brought police -- and, later, a Bergen County Regional SWAT team and a negotiator.
There was no immediate word on whether or what charges would be filed.
Police diverted traffic from the area through the standoff, which began around 12:30 p.m.
